PANJIM: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that the South Goa District Hospital will start operations as a COVID-19 hospital from Saturday.

“There would be no VIP culture. All those in need will be provided bed,” he said.

He added that initially only 150 beds will start and then extended up to 350 beds.

“Our team is working persistently to ensure all our patients are given quality healthcare services,” Rane tweeted.

He added that the decision was taken at the interaction with the expert committee on Thursday afternoon, which discussed several treatment measures for COVID-19. 

“We shall inspect the South Goa District Hospital tomorrow (Friday), which will start operation from Saturday with 150 beds initially and will be taken up to 350 beds,” Rane tweeted further. 

Giving further details of the meeting Rane, added, “Patients coming to ward-148 with symptoms, to be treated in COVID ward to ensure there's no delay in providing medical assistance to critical patients.”

He added that the anaesthesia technicians that are being trained will be deployed to monitor the oxygen supply, to patients either in the ward or remotely.

“Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to be developed to ensure all patients whether mild, moderate or severe, get oxygen on a timely basis. Ward 115 under the Pulmonary Medicine department at GMC will be ready by Tuesday,” he said.

With regard to some alterations in the Home Isolation Kit, he explained that the kit will now include - Pulse-oxymeter, Doxycycline, Vitamin C tablets, Zinc tablets & Ivermecticin (in line with the UP govt protocol). 

“The respective nodal officers at the COVID Hospitals wil have the final authority over discharge of COVID patients,” he added.
