PANJIM: State Government is all set to increase the financial sanction under its flagship Deendayal Panchayat Raj Infrastructure Development scheme, from existing Rs 2.5 crore to Rs 3.5 crore.

Government had launched the scheme in 2013 for giving financial aid to panchayats to create infrastructure.

Minister for Panchayat Mauvin Godinho said the proposal to enhance the financial assistance under the scheme from Rs 2.5 crore to Rs 3.5 crore would be placed during the upcoming Cabinet meeting for decision.

Under the scheme, panchayats can take up work such as construction of panchayat ghar, market complex and others.

Minister said during his tenure last two years, he has inaugurated 25 projects under the scheme, while another 25 are nearing completion. "This week, we have approved another six-seven new projects in panchayat areas," he said and added that with increase in financial support, panchayats would be able to take up more than one project.

Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) is the nodal agency for executing the work under the scheme.  The funds under the scheme would be released in three phases.
