MAPUSA: The Mapusa residents who are fighting to save the Cunchelim ground on Thursday decided to hold ward-wise agitations to stop the development of plots.

Addressing a press conference, Vijay Bhike said, “We have decided to hold ward-wise agitations of elected councillors who are supporting this plots development. Demonstrations will also be held at every junction of Mapusa town. Authorities are illegally misusing this open land and only ground that is left in Mapusa.”

“We have approached all the authorities and given representation including the Governor of Goa. We even tried to meet the local MLA regarding this issue but he is not paying any attention in this matter. We will be holding peaceful protests to oppose this plots development. The process of approaching the High Court is also in progress,” Bhike added.

He also alleged that the local MLA and Mapusa Municipal Council are involved in this land grab scam.

“This is the only traditional ground that is left for general public use where the Comunidade is developing plots. Around 47 plots are being developed admeasuring 1200, 2000 and 3000 sqmts while many are of 300 sqmts. This is a scam to grab the land. One of the plots is kept for MLA due to which he is supporting this illegal conversation,” Jayesh Kamart alleged.

He stated that when the people objected to plots development on this ground, MMC  issued a notice to stop the activity.

“Temporary no objection certificate was granted with 15 days period to produce Sanad. However, Comunidade failed to produce the documents,” he added.
