MAPUSA: An accused, arrested for theft, escaped from police custody while he was being taken to District Hospital at Mapusa for medical examination on Tuesday. 

In this connection, the North Goa Superintendent of Police has ordered suspension of two constables attached to the Mapusa police station for negligence.

The accused Rahul Shankar Kumar (32), hailing from Bangalore and presently residing at Arpora, was arrested on January 26 by Mapusa police. And on January 27, between 5 am and 5.45 am, when the accused was being taken to the District Hospital at Mapusa for medical examination, he escaped from the custody of constables Sameer Pednekar and Kishan Gawas.
