PANJIM: TCP coordinator Trajano D’Mello said that Leader of the Opposition Michael Lobo’s warning to approach Court against Health Minister Vishwajit Rane for the latter’s actions against his businesses shows that Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant is hapless and Rane is in control.

Trajano said that it is BJP’s modus operandi to unearth illegalities of opposition members and then pressurise them either to join the party or to go behind bars. He said that in Goa, there are allegations that Lobo flourished by being a part of the BJP government and having left them, their party was now after him.

Trajano pointed out that even Mapusa BJP MLA Joshua D’Souza has stated that the Leader of the Opposition is targeted because he ditched the BJP on the eve of Assembly elections. “It was further clear that Lobo who was earlier saying that he has requested the Chief Minister to intervene in the matter was now thinking of approaching the court. This only implies that the Chief Minister was helpless and that Vishwajit Rane is in control,” he added.

Following the recent statement of Secretary (Legislature) Namrata Ulman, Trajano slammed the Chief Minister for his ill-informed statement on the loss of Goa Assembly’s records.

Lambasting Sawant for his remarks, D’Mello said, “Despite Namrata Ulman’s recent statement confirming that all the records are well preserved, the Chief Minister has not yet spoken on the matter.” He further added, “The CM has been the former Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and his statement leads one to believe that he has a hidden agenda behind such claims or his intentions are dubious.”

Exasperated by the Chief Minister’s hypocrisy, D’Mello said, “The Chief Minister announced his intentions of sending officers to Portugal to retrieve 400-year-old historical records to help understand pre-Liberation Goa. It is a shame that he's not aware of the 60-year old documents despite being the custodian.”

Highlighting the sorry state of Goa’s infrastructure and governance, Trajano supported Revenue Minister Babush Monserrate’s demand for an enquiry to probe the washing out of hot-mixed roads. But the enquiry must not be restricted to Panjim city only and the Vigilance must be extended all across the State, he added.

Bringing to the fore the Minister’s previous allegations, Trajano said that during his tenure as MLA, Monserrate alleged that under the current Chief Minister there was massive corruption in the PWD for recruiting engineers. As a result the government conceded in High Court and scrapped the entire recruitment procedure. He further added that the demand for arresting the engineers is allowing the bigger crooks to go scot-free.
