Budget adds to start-up buzz

PANJIM: The new goverment led by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, realising the the stress on what Prime Minister Narendra Modi is stressing on, ensured that information technology has to be brought to the fore. In his budget speech as a finance minister too, Mr Parrikar not only proposed Rs 15 crore for this sector, but at the same time announced to set up a Start-up Promotion Board and make Goa a start-up destination. This is for the first time that Goa goverment has laid clear direction in the IT sector.

PANJIM: The new goverment led by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, realising the the stress on what Prime Minister Narendra Modi is stressing on, ensured that information technology has to be brought to the fore. In his budget speech as a finance minister too, Mr Parrikar not only proposed Rs 15 crore for this sector, but at the same time announced to set up a Start-up Promotion Board and make Goa a start-up destination. This is for the first time that Goa goverment has laid clear direction in the IT sector.

“My Government will fully focus on implementation of current Goa IT Investment Policy 2015 on priority to promote local entrepreneurship, innovation and aggressively market Goa as an ideal destination for startups and mid-sized technology companies through collaborations with established Indian IT states and global brands in technological innovation and funding. In order to promote startups in IT sector, a Startup Promotion Board will be established during this financialyear,” said Mr Parrikar.

He further proposed to complete IT park at Chimbel in all respect in next two years taking all stakeholders into confidence. The Electroniccity proposed at Tuem has been accorded approval by the Governmentof India and a financial sanction of Rs 73.78 crore has been received asgrant-in-aid. 

All is being done to promote jobs in Goa as out of the nearly 2600 IT graduates ever year, hardly 8-10 per cent get jobs in Goa. “The aim of my Government would be to create at least 4000jobs per annum in the Goan IT Industry. We will also upgrade Goa’s IT infrastructure for high-speed broadband connectivity to every corner of Goa within the next twoyears,” committed the Chief Minister Mr Manohar Parrikar who is also the finance and IT minister of Goa.

He added in his budget speech that his government will encourage digital payment and make itfinancially rewarding. “For this I propose to formulate an appropriate policy inorder to discourage cash transactions,” said Mr Parrikar.

He assured the Goa Assembly in his budget speech that a total budgetary provision of Rs 16906.35 lakhs for ITsector, including provision of Rs 1500 lakhs for startups, Rs 5538.27 lakhs for

Mining Sector, and Rs 5102.48 lakhs for Industries, Trade and commerce. 

Towing the line of the Central government to promote skill India, Mr Parrikar stressed on skill development and said that it is an important aspect for employment generationand making youth capable of being employed. “I intend to establish a Boardfor formulating a policy and executing the road map for entrepreneurshiptraining and skill development. I have made a provision of Rs 200 lakhs in the Budget,” said Mr Parrikar.
