Co-operative banks need professional help not political

PANJIM: The absence of professional competence in the cooperative movement has resulted in it flirting with disaster. The CM made this point in his budget speech. He said it was too long a period that the financial sector in cooperative movement has not been properly monitored on account of political interference and laxity on the part of the management of this sector. 

He proposed to enforce accountability through strict measures, holding the directors responsible for misfeasance. 

The Government, he said intends to take steps for adequate infusion of capital into this bank, for which preliminary talks have been held with RBI and NABARD. Required statutory amendment’s will be carried out, to ensure that the bank is placed under professional care and whatever bitter medicine required shall be administered to prevent further deterioration of its health. Towards its end he intended to provide Rs. 20 crores in the budget.  

In order to provide speedy redressal to consumer disputes and effective functioning, he intended to appoint a full time President and Members on both North & South Goa District Forum. In addition he also proposed to construct a dedicated independent building for Goa State Consumer Disputes redressal Commission and North Goa District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum with appropriate central assistance.   Going one step further, he said a move was afoot  to monitor daily activities from the Head Office, he proposed to install CCTV cameras in all 11 taluka godowns of Civil Supplies. This will safe guard the godown and reduce theft cases.
