SANGUEM: The people from Sanguem irrespective of caste, creed and religion will be missing the hustle and bustle of the festive atmosphere of Our Lady of Miracles for the second consecutive year due to the pandemic COVID.

The feast which is celebrated on the second Saturday of May and is locally known as “Purumentachem Fest” would attract large crowd irrespective of caste and religion not only on the feast day but also on the days of Novena.

Moreover, the feast also had importance to the people from Sanguem and nearby villages on account of the fair which would last for seven days and had everything in store right from dry fish to high end furniture and spices of all kinds. .

It was during this time of the year that majority of the people from Sanguem who reside elsewhere around the globe, either for work purpose or other necessities would come back home and join their families for the celebration of the feast.

However since last year, the scenario has changed. The doors of Our Lady of Miracles Church have remained closed for the parishioners on account of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) declared by the government and the parishioners are compelled to stay indoors and hear the novena and feast mass streamed live via Youtube.

The feast mass this year will be streamed live on Youtube on May 15, at 9 am. Parish Priest Sanguem Fr Tadeo D’Silva will be the main celebrant.

The nine days Novena service was also streamed live on Youtube and was widely appreciated by the people from Sanguem residing worldwide as they all got to participate in the celebration of the feast notwithstanding the pandemic the State is presently reeling under.
