MAPUSA: Pilerne Sports Club stunned unbeaten St. Anthony’s Marna by a solitary goal in the fourth-round league match of the GFA's 2nd Division league played, at Duler stadium, here, on Tuesday.

St. Anthony’s Marna who were unbeaten in the league remain on nine points while Pilerne have six points.

Pilerne started aggressively and had a decent chance of taking the lead in the fourth minute when Prakash Rathod`s long ball found Chaitan Dabholkar in the penalty box who did everything right except hitting the target from close range.

Marna who were so impressive in their previous matches were completely let down and were also not helped by poor shooting from Pushparaj Mandrekar and Vipul Pednekar who squandered open sitters.

Pilerne almost broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute when a dangerous cross was delivered into the box by Prakash Rathod who found Rajat Chopdekar whose firm header was acrobatically tipped over by Marna keeper Vinit Agarwadekar.

Marna started the second half brightly and nearly went ahead in the 63rd minute when Sherwin Lobo flicked the ball in the path of Pusparaj Mandrekar who only with the keeper to beat but saw his low shot being saved by custodian Krupesh Bandodkar.

Minutes later, Marna’s Pusparaj Mandrekar was once again unlucky when his cracking shot from just outside the penalty box rebounded off the goal post.

At the other Pilerne's Rajat too had the same fate when his well struck shot hit the woodwork in the 79th minute.

Just when it looked both teams would be returning home with a point each Pilerne stunned Marna by getting the decisive goal through substitute Anant Chopdekar who kept his nerves to slot the ball into the goal after Chaitan`s shot was palmed by keeper Vinit into his direction, 1-0

Pilerne need to thank their keeper Krupesh Bandodkar for the victory as he brought two breathtaking saves first blocking Pushparaj fierce shot in the 82nd minute and then bringing a spectacular stop to deny Sahi Pomburpekar stinging shot from crashing into the net in the 92nd minute.

Meanwhile at Astro Turf, Fatorda, Sports & Welfare Club of Zaino came from behind to down Guirdolim Club with a late winner  2-1 win.

Guirdolim Club took the lead in the eighth minute through Safik Shaikh. But like their previous matches, Guidolim conceded in the 38th minute as SWC Zaino restored parity in the 38th minute through Lawren Fernandes.

In the second session, SWC Zaino played better football and after nearly struggling to find the breakthrough,  scored the match-winner in the 87th minute through Lawren Fernandes, who completed his brace.
