RAIA: Hosts Sporting Club of Davorlim score a convincing 3-0 win over St Anthony Sports Club, Colva, to move into the quarter-finals of 15th Davorlim Cup organised by Sporting Club of Davorlim, at Davorlim panchayat ground, on Thursday.
Both teams played an attacking soccer from the word go and St Anthony SC had the first opportunity to take the lead when Kabir Khan shoot from the box well-collected by SC Davorlim keeper Francisco Colaco in 12th minute.
But SC Davorlim’s Milton send long pass to Prince Figueiredo who shoot in the net to give lead to his team. Sporting Club of Davorlim were leading 1-0 at half time.
The match in the second half was evenly poised and St Anthony SC took control of the game and were near to take the game on level terms but Daylon’s header missed the target in the 40th minute.
As match progressed, SC Davorlim doubled the lead through Veliston Colaco’s beautiful header in the 45th minute. Later on, Prince completed his brace in injury time to seal the game.
Brenda Miranda gave the man-of-the-match award to Prince Figueiredo of Sporting Club of Davorlim. Earlier, Chandor Club outplayed United Club, Utorda, 5-1 to move in the quarter-finals. Chandor opened the scoreline through Laximan Gaonkar in the very 3rd minute of play with a neat placement, while United Club’s Myron Pereira missed an open chance to level the score in 14th minute of play.
Later on, Louie Noronha and Sildon Peixeto scored in the 16th and 21st minute respectively for Chandor Club, while Russell Monteiro scored for United Club in the 28th minute.
At half time, the score remained 3-1in favour of Chandor Club.
In second half, United Club took control of game and created many chances but luck did not favour them and Chandor Club scored another two goals through Gele D'Costa and Viton Fernandes in 36th and 48th minute respectively.
Laximan Gaonkar was declared the man-of-the-match, which was presented by Vallab Varak.
