MAPUSA: Sesa Football Academy and Calangute Association split points after a 0-0 draw in the fourth-round match of the GFA’s Professional League, at Duler stadium, here, on Tuesday.

Both teams needing a win to improve their league standings failed to get better of each other and were tied goalless at the end of the regulation time.

After Tuesday’s match Calangute who are yet to taste a defeat remain on seven points while Sesa FA has four points after their fourth league match.

Calangute were off their blocks quickly and should have opened the scoring in the third minute but were denied by the alertness of Sesa defender Myran Pereira who pushed the ball out for a corner in the nick of time before Daryl Costa could get his laces onto the ball and fire it into the net.

In the 23rd minute, Gaurav Vaigankar whipped a dangerous cross from the right side towards the goal but it was brilliantly tipped over the bar by the Sesa keeper Sapam Nongpoknganba Singh before any of his teammates could get to the end of it.

Sesa who were pedestrian throughout the first session had the first decent chance in the closing minutes when Vishnu Gosavi’s well struck free-kick landed straight into the hand of keeper Sanij Bugde.

Changing ends, Sesa showed more urgency and took the field with a new mindset as they went out in search of a win and were unlucky in the 63rd minute when Myran Pereira’s header from a free-kick delivered by Richard Cardozo went over the crossbar.

Sesa kept raiding their rival’s goal and squandered another sitter in the 73rd minutes through Richard Cardozo who to everyone’s astonishment blasted the ball wide from close range from a neat build up play between Olvin Cardozo and Shajam P.

Calangute who were on the back-foot saw coach Severino bring in fresh legs upfront to try and sneak a goal and it nearly paid off when in the 79th minute Moises D`Sa laid the ball to a well-positioned Daryl Costa who with keeper Sapnam Singh out of the goal fluffed his lines at the crucial point.

Richard should have sealed the win for Sesa in the final minutes but he failed to sort out his feet in time to slot the ball past keeper Sanji from a long ball delivered into the box by Domnic Soares.
