MAPUSA: Sesa FA put up a brave fight to hold FC Goa to a 2-2 draw in the Goa Professional League played at Duler stadium here on Sunday.
It was FC Goa’s last league match and they finished off on 17 points while Sesa FA have 11 points with a match still to play.
The match which never rose to any great heights saw both teams locked 1-1 at the end of first half.
Sesa FA opened the scoring in the 14th minute from a neat build up play between Dominic Soares and Myron Borges who released Shajam P down the left flank who took a touch and unleashed a fierce left footed shot from a tight angel that zoomed past the FC Goa custodian Hritik Tiwari to give his side the lead.
Down by a goal, FC Goa who were slow to get off their blocks nearly got level on terms in the 28th minute when Ivan Costa dangerous looking cross was paired out by Sesa keeper Roanal and the ball came to Delton Colaco whose first-time half volley was once again saved by the keeper Roanal Gaunkar.
FC Goa finally succeeded in getting back level on terms before the half time whistle from a spot-kick which was calmly converted by Christy Davis after Brison Fernandes goal bound shot on goal was handled in the penalty box by a Sesa FA defender to make it 1-1
After a drub 30 minutes play where there was nothing much to witness, FC Goa made it 2-1 when U20 Brison Fernandes corner kick found Ivon Costa whose header was cleared from the goal line by Sesa's Myran Pereira and the ball rolled to Kapil Hoble who poked the ball into the empty net.
Just when it looked the Gaurs would be returning home with full three points, Sesa were awarded a penalty by referee Tejas Nagvenkar after Kapil Hoble tripped an advancing Faheez Mohammed inside the danger zone, Cajetan Fernandes who took the responsibility saw his spot-kick being blocked by keeper
Roanal Gaunkar who however scored off the rebound to make it 2-2.
