Sunny excels as Iqbal XI defeat Panvel CC

Team Herald

RAIA: A blistering 91 in 53 balls by Iqbal XI opener Sunny Kanekar enabled them to overcome a stiff target of 188 in only 16 overs with 8 wickets standing in the 2nd Late Chandrakant Karapurkar Trophy cricket tournament.

Winning the toss and batting first, Panvel CC kept the tempo intact and finished at 187 for 7 in 20 overs. Mukul Kasana (65) and Pramod Naik (56) stitched a 119 runs with first wicket partnership in only 12.4 overs when Rajashad Shaikh drew first blood by taking Pramod Naik’s wicket. Rest of the batsmen kept the run rate going and finally ended at 187 for 7 in 20 overs. Ashok Rathod took 3 for 29.

A seemingly stiff target was made easy by Iqbal XI openers’ hard hitting the hapless Panvel CC bowlers, as the first wicket yielded 146 runs in only 11 overs when Imran (56) was bowled by Tendulkar. However, Sunny carried on with the attack but could not complete his century as he holed up in the deep off Tendulkar for 91. The formality was completed in the next overas Vikas Desai (24 not out.) hit the winning runs.

Brief scores: Panvel 187/7 (20 overs) (Kasana 65, Pramod 56, Rathod 3/29). Iqbal XI 188/2 (16 overs) (Sunny 91, Imran 56, Vikas Desai 24 n.o,  Anand Tendulkar 2/19).
