Thankfully better sense prevailed otherwise those going to their ancestral villages to celebrate Ganesh Chathurthi would have been put to inconvenience. But the bigger question is that the state-run transport corporation has been running into heavy losses ever since it was introduced. The loss has been mounting every year. One had expected KTC to come out of the red under the present government. But it was not to be. KTC cannot carry on incurring such heavy losses for long.
It is time the KTC chief introduces some drastic measures to see that the revenue of the corporation improves and that it starts to make profits after breaking even. A tour to study how the state transport system of other states operate profitably needs to be undertaken and the necessary recommendations implemented for running the KTC busses in the state.
