Monsoon Musings

The season’s curtains opened and the South West Monsoon winds came, sometime back, slow at first with the roar of thunder through the heavens. Forked lightning running through the sky with its silver streak; than it came faster and faster, as everyone was waiting for the touch of its drop.
With welcoming gratitude the boats tossed up and down, and the trees, laughed happily shaking their heads from side to side, as if dancing the rock-n-roll. The rain water went struggling on its downward hilly journey, softly singing its gurgling tune; and the sound of the full flow of waterfall; and the frogs croaking like double bass is a musical thrill; Oh! What a majestic entry of monsoon season! A grand orchestra of nature!
Blow, blow, monsoon winds with full fury and bless our fields with paddy as farming is entirely at your mercy. If you falter, hunger on this earth will be unbearable. So, open your skies generously and dress the world in greenery because our verdant villages have turned into concrete jungles and our mighty woods have been raped by industries, which is a cruel crime of ecology. You are the hope of our farmers; and joy to tourists.
Blow, blow, monsoon winds and let your raindrops clatter on roofs like horses hoofs and fall with ferocity on the heads of men to clean their thoughts of communal hatred, unfaithfulness where marriage is a Judas kiss and friendship a mere show. Fill the hearts of men with love and patience far, far from hostility and jealousy.
Blows, blow, stormy winds and wash away all types of corruption. Several public servants are star-liars making people move from Pilate to Herod and from Herod to Pilate. And nothing moves in public office without depositing monetary paper weights on table. With wild winds, heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms create an atmosphere of fear change their hearts and instill in everyone the thirst for a peaceful life. Greed makes any one a fool. Let “under table culture” spawned by the bug of greed, be blown forever. As example is more powerful than precept, make them remember how men of power have been caught for possessing assets which are disproportionate to their known source of income. Change their hearts so that they learn by the mistakes of others. Give them eyes to see the mistaken they are doing and ears to hear the cries and curses of the poor whom they “eat not bodily but financially”.
Blow, blow, monsoon winds with restless violence and flood our roads to expose cosmetic job done by manual workers. They have left many blocked drains untouched as they react to orders with deafening silence. Wrong deeds always end up getting bad results. Responsible authorities sit in the comfort of their ivory tower unperturbed about the carelessness of their labourers. They see no wrong; hear no wrong and there is no system of enforcing accountability. Perhaps they do not know that unless punishment is stringent insubordination can never be controlled.
Blow, blow, monsoon winds blow! You are a blessing to us all. You bring down temperatures, replenish rivers and reservoirs. On rainy nights when and our linesmen switches on street lights, our ponds and puddles, the skies and streets shine and stretch out at our feet. Oh, what a sparkling sight!
