On his exit from the Chief Minister’s post, Manohar Parrikar should have been succeeded by Dy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza. It was a continuous process of change over and not a new government coming to power. Instead players in the field tried to bid for their right to dance around the chair. Francis had dropped a bombshell that he would not work under a junior and would not take oath as a minister but will continue as an MLA. His contention was that he is a disciplined soldier of the party and that he is the natural successor to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. But in the course of time his bombshell got diffused and he sang a different tune in favour of the BJP Legislature Party. Michael Lobo had also expressed similar sentiment that D’Souza be made the Chief Minister to show BJP is non-communal. His outburst too got mutated and sang in the same tune of Francis D’Souza. Very strange of our politicians!
At the swearing-in ceremony, except for two ministers, Francis and Alina, all the other ministers took their oath in Marathi knowing too well that Konkani is the Official Language of Goa. Francis D’Souza was seen garlanding Laxmikant Parsekar who was not the choice of Manohar Parrikar. These incidents are indicative of the future things to come. The BJP being in full majority both in Goa and at the Centre, and the Congress decimated to its lowest with no chance of revival due to their internal bickering, it is likely that bikini ladies on our beaches will get targeted more aggressively to protect Bharat Sanskriti and the Hindu Rastra may become a reality turning Goa virtually into a battle field. As for Parrikar, he found an escape route in Narendra Modi to run away from the mess that Goa is in leaving it for his successor to wield the cleaning broom. It is but everyone’s expectation that the two will take the nation forward protecting and maintaining its secular nature. How far the new Chief Minister will succeed in making swachch Bharat, nitoll Goem in every possible way is yet to be seen. All the same, Goa is on the verge of an unpredictable future only time will tell.
