After the ban on mining which affected not only the mine owners but also the people involved in transportation, garages, small cafeterias, etc we now have a ruling which will not only affect the liquor industry, wholesalers, retailers and consumers but will also affect the tourism industry and hotels and guesthouses and excise department etc. Why did it take this government so long to apply for an exemption to this rule. If it could form a government in two days what was the reason of getting legal expertise to see if they could bring in new ordinances for this particular ruling before the expiry of the dead-line. Was this delay done on purpose to ruin our economy even further? If other states could do it, why not our state of Goa?
One more thing that everyone should realise is that where there is a will there always is a way. Spurious breweries will spring up killing thousands more than those involved in accidents like prohibition in states that banned sale of liquor and people who run them are in league with people in power and are never bought to justice. People will go beyond the 500 meters line to either consume liquor or carry it with them. It should be the onus of the Government to control accidents and keep a vigilant eye on the domestic tourists who do not know how to handle and consume liquor. Because it is cheap in Goa they abuse the same and become rowdy and abusive. When foreign tourists come to Goa, they believe that if a person has fallen on the streets of Goa he is presumed to be a Goan which is never true. The domestic tourists give Goa a bad name and they are the ones who litter the streets and beaches with broken bottles and garbage because this Government is not making them aware that strong action will be taken against them in case they violate the laws of our state.
These notices should be placed at convenient places and in big wordings at all places of arrival and also when you show-case our state through exhibitions through out the world, it should also give advisory notices for the do’s and don’ts list giving the amount of penalty that will be imposed including that of spitting and chewing pan. Why is Singapore so clean and the same cannot be implemented in Goa which is having the same area?
