The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is closely monitoring the situation in the Indo-Pacific following recent Chinese military exercises near Taiwan, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Friday, January 9. India has “an abiding interest in peace and stability” in the region, given its significant trade, economic, maritime, and people-to-people ties. Jaiswal urged all parties to exercise restraint, avoid unilateral actions, and resolve disputes through peaceful dialogue without resorting to force. The remarks come amid heightened tensions after China conducted 10 hours of live-fire drills around Taiwan, including simulated blockade exercises. Taiwan remains on high alert and has vowed to defend its sovereignty, while some Chinese vessels reportedly withdrew after the exercises. India has consistently called for dialogue and calm in the Indo-Pacific, stressing that regional peace is vital for global prosperity.
