VASCO: Thirty-three floating docks (out of 88) which were stored at Baina beach and were suppose to be used as floating jetty for the proposed Baina-Dona Paula ferry were destroyed in a fire incident on Tuesday evening. The loss is pegged at Rs 33 lakh.
The floating docks belonged to Drishti Marine Solutions Pvt Ltd and after the fire incident, Drishti suspects sabotage by unknown persons to hinder ferry operations.
At around 5.30 pm, locals witnessed smoke and fire at the floating docks stored on the beach. After receiving intimation, Vasco fire department was notified. Firemen were pressed into service. However, by then 33 floating docks were already reduced to ash.
Later, Drishti Marine Solutions Pvt Ltd issued a press statement saying, “At approximately 17.30 hours this evening, a fire broke out at Baina beach, Vasco where 33 units of floating docks belonging to Drishti Marine Solutions Pvt Ltd were destroyed. The estimated loss amounts to Rs 33 lakh. A total of 88 units of floating docks were stored on Baina beach. The material was procured for the soon-to-be-launched ferry service to ply between Panjim and Vasco. The company strongly suspects sabotage.”
