Aam Admi’s cup of woes mounts

Price hike in petrol, essential items give common man sleepless nights

PONDA: Aam Admi’s worries never seem to go away. More and more tension is added to his woes as the prices of essential items have been increasing with every passing day. To rub salt to his wounds the rise in fuel prices is also giving him sleepless nights.

“Everything starting from LPG, to edible oil and travelling is costing more and more,” said one  Pondaite who chose to be anonymous. “The prices of essential items for our daily needs are increasing, but our monthly salaries have remained the same. Covid-19 has brought in misery and hardships in our day to day life. How can we manage to stay alive and feed our families?” the man added.

The common man has been unable to live his normal life, especially after the Corona virus struck humanity one year back. The aam admi has never been able to put his life back to normal, with the prices of everything rising under the sun.

“The bills are mounting; water, electricity, vegetable and fruits have been so costly that we cannot even buy essential daily items,” said another Ponda local. “With the hike in petrol and diesel, the prices of all the essential commodities will increase because the transporters are going to hike their fees,” added the local.

“With our salaries getting exhausted mid-month, we cannot make any savings and are forced to borrow to survive,” said another man from Bethora.

“We cannot afford to give anything special to our children in these days,” he said, adding that “all children are not that understanding and continue to make demands.”

The common man wants the government to end his miseries by controlling the hike in prices of essential commodities.

In the villages, when menfolk gather for a cup of tea in the evening or a sip in a bar, everyone has the same thought in his mind. ‘How can I survive and get through this difficult stage in our life.’

A Government servant is not worried, because his needs are taken care of by the government, says another, but the poor man is just forgotten.

Suraj Naik, working as security guard, says he prefers to idle his time when off duty to save something for a rainy day. “I don’t get out because I have to put petrol for my bike. I cannot even visit my family,” he sighs.

“Government should provide some relief to the common man by at least controlling the hike in prices and make it affordable to common man,” said Sandeep Parkar.
