CALANGUTE: PWD Chief Engineer Allen Pereira on Friday said in another six months all roads in Calangute will be hotmixed. After Calangute sarpanch Joseph Sequeira recently criticised PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral for “neglecting” Calangute, senior PWD officials on Friday inspected the roads.
Pereira, claimed that there are no potholes in Calangute. “In the last two years, the PWD has carried out road hot-mixing works on 27kms in Calangute constituency at a cost of Rs 22 cr. There’s nothing like we’re not doing any work in Calangute. As soon as the JICA work is completed in 1-2 months, then we will do hot-mixing. In another six months, all roads in Calangute will be hotmixed,” the chief engineer said, adding, “Road works in Calangute is an ongoing thing. There are no issues of potholes. On the Baga stretch the JICA work is going on and the service stretch is being repaired after the work is done.”
It may be recalled that Calangute sarpanch had slammed the PWD and claimed that in the last seven-eight years tourism had declined in the coastal village because of bad roads and added that tourists had back with bad memories. Sequeira had also taken pot shots at the PWD Minister alleging that he had neglected Calangute.
