CHORAO: SPACE along with the youth of Our Lady of Grace Church, Madel-Chorao organised a cleanliness drive by collecting plastic and solid waste from the Chorao ferry point, recently. The entire road area of the Madel-Chorao-Ribandar Ferry Crossing was swept free of all solid waste. Eight large bags of plastic were collected and taken to the panchayat collection site.
In October 2016, prior to the Bird Festival, SPACE (Society for Promoting the Arts, Culture and Education) had negotiated with Forest Dept for garbage bins for this ferry point and with the panchayat to work out the weekly clearing of these plastic waste bins.
Range Forest Officer, Mary Ann D’Souza and her team handed over the bins to the sarpanch.
The forest department, panchayat, SPACE and youth of Grace Church, urge the visitors and commuters to make a difference by using the waste bins effectively, so as to maintain cleanliness at the entry point of the island as well as the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary.
