SANGUEM: With major damage caused to the electricity poles and cables at many places and also substantial damage caused to agricultural plantation, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Thursday visited Sanguem Constituency to take first hand information over the impact the recent cyclonic winds had on Sanguem.

Sawant had a meeting with the concerned government officials including Sanguem Deputy Collector Sagun Gaude, Mamlatdar Manoj Korgaonkar and others.
Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar, former MLAs Subhash Phaldessai, Vassudev Meng Gaonkar and Sanguem BJP Block President Navnath Naik were also present.
At the meeting, Sawant was informed by the concerned department officials that most of the work pertaining to the restoration of electricity and water supply is completed.
Sawant urged the department officials to complete the remaining work of providing electricity and water to the other affected areas at the earliest so that the people are relieved from the damages caused by the cyclonic winds on immediate basis.
He further said that the work of the parallel bridge at Dando Sanguem, which was halted for some time due to the pandemic and has been restarted recently would be taken on urgent basis and the people would get to see the new bridge soon.
Sawant urged the department officials to complete the work of black topping of the road from Dando to Sanguem Police Station, which was dug recently to lay the drinking water pipeline to complete before the monsoon.
During the course of meeting, Sanguem former MLA Phaldessai brought to the notice of the Chief Minister of the need to shift the vaccination centre which is presently housed at Government Higher Secondary School to the Municipal Hall in the town area or at the Government Primary School.
Phaldessai cited the distance involved in travelling to the Government Higher Secondary School and the transportation problems faced by the people in making to the vaccination centre.
It is however pertinent to note that while the Sanguem Municipal Council had made elaborate arrangements to set up the vaccination centre at Sanguem Municipal Hall, it was shifted to the Government Higher Secondary School by the health authorities allegedly on account of political reasons.
BJP Block President Navnath Naik expressed the need to cut the trees all along the main road proceeding to Wadem from Bhati, which are in dangerous condition and are likely to lead to severe eventualities during the coming monsoon.
Former MLA Gaonkar urged the Chief Minister to direct the PWD officials to immediately get the road from Uguem to Bhati, which was dug to lay the drinking water pipeline tarred before the monsoon.
Sanguem MLA who had a bitter relation with the Chief Minister some time back over the matter pertaining to Sanjivani Sugar Factory and the IIT project at Sanguem informed that despite he not being part of the BJP government, the government, more particularly the Chief Minister has provided enough support to the development works proposed by him in Sanguem Constituency. Goankar further informed that he has no grudge whatsoever against the Chief Minister.
