Margao: The Green Goa Foundation (GGF) has alleged the Chief Officer (CO) of Cuncolim Municipal Council (CMC) has failed to monitor and control the movement of stray cattle within the municipal jurisdiction.
They pointed out that there have been several accidents involving fatalities and major injuries caused by stray cattle and that the cattle move unhindered and squat on the roads and open spaces. They added that the animals are particularly difficult to detect at night more so because of the poor lighting.

“The stray cattle abound in the immediate vicinity of the municipal building and a couple of times even the CO herself had to get someone to drive away the cattle to enter the municipality,” pointed out the GGF.
When the GGF brought this to the notice of the CO, she claimed that there are so many High Court orders and the CO cannot be expected to implement all of them.
“That the Municipal CO has failed to follow the directions issued by the High Court by its order April 2, 2007 in Writ Petition No. 261/2004 where specific orders have been passed in the matter of dealing with stray cattle. The GGF shall be forced to move contempt before the High Court unless the Chief Officer acts in the matter immediately,” warned Raison Almeida of GGF.
