PANJIM: The North Goa Collector Ajit Roy on Thursday revoked permission to striking taxi operators, for having violated Section 144 CrPC imposed due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Ironically, the reason for revoking the order comes despite Chief Minister Pramod Sawant recently informed that the State government has withdrawn Section 144 CrPC. The taxi operators had been granted permission to hold the strike from April 6 to 10, wherein they have demanded scrapping of app-based aggregator service in the State. The order issued on Thursday evening revoked the permission based on report from Panjim Police that the protesters have violated the law.

“…it has been reported that on April 8, the number of agitators participated in the said agitation exceeded to 800 persons, thereby violating the order under Section 144 CrPC issued in view of COVID-19 Pandemic. Therefore, the permission granted to you … stands evoked/cancelled with immediate effect,” the order said.
