MARGAO: Art and Culture Minister Dayanand Mandrekar on Saturday expressed his support for a Tiatr bhavan in the state, while paying rich tributes to the Tiatrits for their immense contribution to the art over the years.
He was speaking at a function organised by the Tiatr Academy of Goa at Ravindra bhavan to felicitate the 13 Tiatrists with the Lifetime Contribution to tiatr awards for their contribution towards the promotion and development of Tiatr, its song and music during their life time. “I fully support the demand for a Tiatr bhavan. But, we have to move forward with the proposal by identifying Communidade land, may be in and around Margao, for that purpose”, he said.
Mandrekar saluted the Tiatrists for their contribution to Tiatr during their lifetime, saying that no award will compensate the time and energy put in by the artists for the enrichment of Tiatr without any expectation and financial benefits. Complimenting the Tiatr Academy for putting in good work since its inception, Mandrekar, however, said the real work of the Academy has just begun, expressing confidence that the Academy will take Tiatr to greater heights.
Chairman of Ravindra bhavan, Damu Naik said that Tiatr has helped to retain Goan culture, language and identity and complimented Tiatr Academy for its contribution to Tiatr.
Earlier, Tiatr Academy of Goa President Prince Jacbo drew attention of the Art and Culture Minister to the long standing need of the Academy for an independent Tiatr bhavan. “We can have the Tiatr bhavan even on the outskirts of Panjim”, he sadi.
The 13 Tiatr artistes who were honoured with the Life time Contribution to Tiatr award are Osvi Viegas, Wilson Mazarello (Wilmix), Anil Chandrakant Devulkar (Anil Kumar), Daniel Salvador Lemos (S Lemos), Joao Manuel Marcelino Fernandes (Young Marcelino), Bonifacio Dias, Filipe Pereira, Philomena D’Souza, Francisco Bringel (Young Chico), Carmen Rose Lobo, Ubaldo Paul Fernandes (Bab Ubaldo), Anthony Alvares (Tony King) and Caridade Fernandes (Babush).
