Dangafolli blocked water channel inspected

CARMONA: The Salcete Zonal Agriculture Officer (ZAO) along with the Carmona Village Panchayat and the Carmona Farmers’ Club on Monday conducted a joint site inspection of the blocked water channels at Dangafolli in Carmona.
Carmona Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge said, “This joint site inspection is to explore ways and means to provide a solution to the perennial vexed problem of the blockage of the Dangafolli nullah, which has resulted in inundation of the fields due to water logging, causing huge losses to the farmers who have now claimed compensation from the authorities.”
Carmona Farmers’ Club president Blair Rodrigues disclosed that they had shown the water blockages which is passing inside the Navy area. “There is no access to clear the water blockages and the people of Carmona cannot cultivate their vast paddy fields for last 10 years due to flooding and for the last two years, the villages of Cavelossim, Orlim and Varca are losing their cultivated crops as the flooding has become severe”, Blair said.
“We requested the Salcete ZAO and the village panchayats of Carmona, Orlim, Varca and Cavelossim to draw the attention of the navy as their permission is being sought by the WRD,” remarked Blair, who also heads the Carmona Villagers Committee (CVC). The CVC had questioned the role and responsibility of the Carmona village panchayat towards the agriculturists and farming community especially in Carmona.
