PANJIM: Dr JayPrakash Tiwari, Professor and Head of the Department of Nephrology, Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) is the frontrunner for the post of Dean of the college.
Sources told Herald that the government has recommended three names to Goa Public Service Commission for appointment as a full-time GMCH Dean. Dr Wiseman Pinto, Professor and HOD of Department of Pathology and Professor and HOD of Orthopedic Dr Shivanand Bandekar have been listed at numbers 2 and 3 respectively.

The Health Department, in February 2019, had replaced Dr Pradeep Naik from the post of Dean of GMC pending inquiry for alleged lapses in converting diploma seats to PG with Bandekar, who was Medical Superintendent of GMC. Naik who had been asked to report to the Public Health Department, Secretariat retired about a month ago. Since then the government has been looking for a new full time Dean.
With the file from Personnel Department has reached GPSC, government sources said, the Commission is expected to hold a meeting shortly following which the appointment will be announced.
