AGONDA: Canacona Police on Thursday arrested two persons in possession of 790 grams of drugs worth Rs 7.90 lakh.
Following a secret lead, the Narcotics Control Bureau squad questioned Rakesh Kumar, originally from Himachal Pradesh and Shivkumar Raju Naik, also a non-Goan, both residing at Karashirmal, Agonda and found them in possession of 790 grams of illegal substances. As per market rates, the substances are worth Rs 7.90 lakh. Both the accused have been sent to police custody.
On the condition of anonymity, a local claimed that the workers employed on shacks, restaurants and hotels at Agonda beach mostly hail from outside Goa and readily work on low wages. These workers then gain the confidence of guests staying in the hotels and sell them drugs as part of their side-hustle. A similar incident had happened in a restaurant at Vaal, Agonda around four days ago and apparently, the restaurant owner was unaware about the worker’s involvement.
Although the tourism season has commenced in Canacona, Agonda panchayat secretary informed that the panchayat is yet to issue a single NOC certificate to any businesses. Sources said that the case is being investigated under the guidance of PI Chandrakant Gawas.
