Education dept working on new projects

Setting up of the State Council for Higher Education, a new DIET office in South Goa and laptop scheme for primary teachers are some of the new projects the State Education ministry is working on.
Replying to the cut motions in the assembly today, Education Minister Babush Monseratte disclosed that 2289 teachers have availed of the laptop schemes so far.
“Every eligible teacher has been given loan of Rs 40,000, payable over 10 years,” he said adding “…and now we would extend the scheme to the primary teachers.”
As per demands by the people and the legislators, Babush also assured to set up a DIET campus in South Goa and State Council for Higher Education.
Technical Cell: In order to attend to the civil works in schools, the government has planned to set up a technical cell in the Goa Education Development Corporation.
“There are several works of SSA and Department of Education, pending with PWD,” he said adding “138 works of SSA and 129 works of Education department are pending with PWD till date”.
He further stated that the main reason for under utilization of SSA funds is the pending works with PWD.
Integrated education complex: Monseratte said that to counter the problem of lack of infrastructure and traffic congestion in city schools, the integrated education complex scheme has been launched.
“The first complex is coming up at Cujira, Bambolim. The process of allotment of land and the development of the complex is on,” he stated.
Monseratte said that the government has also identified adjacent land and are in process of acquiring it.
“Deserving cases will be given priority in allotting land,” he said.
The minister also said that process is also on to identify land in Margao and Mapusa.
Computer teachers: Monseratte said that by the end of this month the 80 computer teacher would be regularised in government schools.
“The remaining 427, working in aided schools, will also be regularized soon,” he said.
