CALANGUTE: The State government and Electricity Department may have upgraded the Electricity Division, Candolim IV at Calangute, but errors in the billing system have shocked consumers.
Recently, a number of consumers from Calangute received bills with arrears of the last paid bills, while a few received exorbitant bills running into lakhs of rupees.
“When I started my business in January this year, I received bills for about Rs 10,000 or so which was on higher side, but was acceptable to me. However, this time I got a bill for Rs 3 lakh, which was shocking, considering my consumption of electricity. There is definitely something wrong with the billing system,” stated a Delhi-based businessman at Calangute.
Another consumer complained that he had paid his previous bills on time, but was surprised to find the same amount reflected as arrears.
When contacted, assistant engineer at Candolim Sub Division at Calangute Electricity Department Chandran admitted that there was “some technical fault in the billing system.”
“This will be rectified and consumers will have no problem in future,” he said.
“A few consumer bills have reflected the earlier paid amount as arrears. It will be resolved and the consumers need not panic about these arrears,” assured Chandran.
