PANJIM: The general body of Goa Board for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) will take a final call on conducting second term examination for Class X, in its meeting scheduled on January 12.
However, Goa Board Chairman Mervyn D’Souza hinted that Board is unlikely to change its stand. Based on the green signal issued by executive committee of Goa Board for conducting the examination for both class X and XII, several higher secondaries have already started the exams, while few are in the process of doing so.
However, at the school level the process has been currently suspended, with Goa Headmasters Association (GHA) refusing to go ahead with it. The association on Wednesday submitted memorandum to Goa Board Chairman Mervyn D’Souza opposing its move to have additional examination just before preliminary examinations. D’Souza told Herald that the issue would be placed before Board’s general body meeting for final decision. “We will have to see what decision is taken, but it’s unlikely that there would be any changes,” D’Souza said adding ‘any change would directly affect final examination as the marks of these examinations would be incorporated in the final exam’.
D’Souza said that the marks scored in this new exam will also be counted in the final board exam’s score in the internal component as per the new grading system in force.
As per Goa Board circular, schools and higher secondary are bound to have these new exams anywhere in January, followed by preliminary examination.
The board exams of class XII and X are scheduled on March 7 and 30 respectively.
