Govt reviews traffic management plan at Zuari Bridge

One PSI, police constables, contractor and volunteers to help ease traffic congestion

PANJIM: In view of increased volume of vehicles that cross the Zuari Bridge and the resultant traffic jams, the traffic management plans were reviewed by the State government at Agassaim police station. 

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that besides one Police Inspector, 30 police constables and a bridge contractor, volunteers will man the traffic 24/7 on either side of the Zuari bridge to help ease traffic congestion.

He acknowledged that there are long queues of vehicles seen on either side of the bridge. He also asked for local stakeholders like panchayats to be taken into confidence to ensure locals are not inconvenienced.  

“As 3 to 4 entry and exit points converge at the single lane bridge, traffic piles up. Commuters should also refrain from overtaking within one km area on either side of the bridge,” said the CM.

The Police’s traffic cell and Agassaim police officials also went over the plans with regard to using barricades to ensure that there is a single lane of traffic. They also went over steps that are needed to be taken such as halting traffic one side at junctions and contingency plans in case of any accident or emergency.
