Margao: Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardessai today said the government may acquire the land where the Lord Damodar water tank popularly called Dam BabachiTalli is situated to convert it to a leisure place.
After removing the banyan tree that had fallen in the tank last year, the area has been beautified with a compound wall enclosing the whole area which has also been leveled.
Chowgules claim to the owners of the land and Vijai said he had asked them to come with their documents to discuss the matter where it could be requisition instead of acquiring as per the new law for taking possession of land required for public purpose.
He said the area could be developed as a leisure spot where people could sit in the evening if some benches were provided. He was speaking after lighting the lamps around the water tank as part of Diwali celebrations.
