PORVORIM: Fisheries Minister Felipe Neri Rodrigues assured members in the Legislative Assembly that the government will initiate stern action against vessels from neighbouring States fishing in Goan waters and also those involved in bull trawling operation.
Answering to a zero hour mention by Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, the Minister said that the Fisheries Department is taking prompt action against vessels from neighbouring States fishing into Goan waters and also those indulging in illegal bull trawling.

“The government will not allow fishing by boats from other States,” he warned.
Sardesai had urged the government to take action on bull trawling by fishermen from neighbouring States as it will deprive the livelihood of Goans and will further deprive Goan residents of good fish.
“If this continues then Goa will face a fish famine and our people will suffer. The fishing community is angry and frustrated by this repeated intrusion of fishermen from neighbouring States into our coastal waters and employing illegal methods for fishing,” he said urging the government to intervene and ensure that the fishermen are protected and that there will be no threat to their livelihood.
