MARGAO: The Goa Seamen Association of India (GSAI) on Wednesday reiterated its demand that the State Government allow seafarers to undergo home quarantine if they test negative for COVID-19.

“The rooms in the quarantine centres are filthy and the seafarers have to face hardship without bringing this to the notice of their companies due to fear and loss of job prospects. The Health Department and the Nodal Officer must ensure that the inspection of the hotels be carried out beforehand if such is the case, which have to be brought to the attention after allotting the same,” demanded GSAI.
“After spending days on ship due to lockdown, the companies have taken good care of our seafarers and even going to the extent by engaging their own ships or charter flights to repatriate seafarers to their home town. Today, GSAI is indebted to these companies, who had shown keen interest for our seafarers as a family,” GSAI said.
“We urge our government to kindly intervene by showing us as a friendly State,” GSAI added.
