PANJIM: Incessant rainfall on Thursday affected normal life in the State as flooding, landslides, waterlogging and traffic congestion were reported in several areas.
The rains lashed Goa since Wednesday night. After pounding the State for several days, rains had abated for a couple of days last week.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Goa had issued Orange Alert on Thursday while the State will be on Yellow Alert from Friday to Saturday as heavy rainfall is expected at a few/isolated places. “The South-West monsoon was vigorous on Thursday,” an IMD official said.
The department also claimed that Goa, which had deficit rainfall during the onset of the South West Monsoon, has recorded 22 percent surplus rain so far. As the rain fury continues, the IMD has issued warning to the fishermen against venturing into the sea.
“Rough to very rough sea conditions with a wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is likely to prevail over East Central Arabian sea during next 2 days (Thursday-Friday). The same weather conditions are likely to prevail over South-west and adjoining West-Central Arabian Sea during next five days (August 15 to August 19). Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas during this period,” an official said.
