PANJIM: A clearly hesitant and a tad nervous BJP, completely rattled at size and the spontaneity of the maiden rally of the Aam Admi Party rally on Sunday, hurriedly convened a press to throw some punches to nullify the blistering attack on the party by Arvind Kejriwal.
Showing clearly where it was hurt the BJP state president Vinay Tendulkar threw a challenge to AAP to save a single deposit of their candidates in the next election. The party that has not managed to have a single representative at local governing bodies like Panchayat, is dreaming of winning 40 assembly seats. “People of Goa are very smart. I challenge Kejriwal to save election deposit in at least one constituency during the coming assembly election,” he said.
“I don’t think, in the current situation BJP will have any opponents during the 2017 polls,” Tendulkar, added for affect, the pain of the Sunday AAP rally evident.
It even sought a public apology from Kejriwal for saying Goa has become a destination for sex, drugs and gambling. It’s another matter that he said that the BJP and Congress governments had made it into a destination for sex, drugs and gambling.
Reacting to charges of corruption levelled by AAP, Tendulkar challenged AAP to file cases before Lokayukta with evidence if present government is corrupt and involved in scam, than making baseless allegations. “People did not simply vote us to power. As promised, we have fulfilled 85 per cent of our assurances in last four years,” he said.
Showing that it had read and watched the AAP rally closely, it was no surprise that it rose to the defence of Goa’s de-facto Chief Minister, who Kejriwal said, had said had “betrayed and backstabbed” the people of Goa. “Kejriwal should not teach politics to Parrikar, who has been in this field for over 25 years now,” he said.
