Kavlekar denies having suppressed info in EC, Lokayukta affidavits

Says selective disclosure of info by ACB is improper; Kerala properties reflected in its returns

PANJIM: Leader of the Opposition Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar has denied that he has suppressed any information or not made any disclosure as required in the election affidavit filed before the Election Commisison of India or in terms of the declaration made before the Goa Lokayukta.
In a statement based on the reports published in Herald last week, Kavlekar said that selective disclosure of information by ACB was improper, particularly when investigations were underway and proceedings were pending in the court.
He stated that the properties in Kerala were acquired pursuant to a loan obtained by the company ‘Vrushal Estate and Development Private Limited’ and all this information was reflected in the returns filed by the company. He said that while an impression is given that ACB got to know about his Goa property in 2017 and registered an FIR, this inquiry commenced in 2013 after the case was registered against him. He said he was summoned by ACB ‘not less than 15 times’.
He said ‘full and complete information’ as required by the Election Commission was disclosed by him in terms of Form 26 under Rule 4A of the Conduct of Election Rules, 1961.
With regard to his reported non disclosures to the Lokaukyta, he said that detailed disclosure of full and complete information in terms of Form III read with Rule 13 of Goa Lokayukta Rules, 2012 was made before the Lokayukta, disclosing accounts, cash and liquid assets as of March 31, 2015 under various headings such as cash, bank deposits, post office accounts, shares, debentures, money advanced, insurance policies property, jewellery, vehicles etc.
In a statement he stated that companies are not owned by individuals and that the company is an independent corporate entity capable of owning its own properties.
Kavlekar further added, selective disclosures were improper when investigation is on its way and that he had not suppressed any information in affidavits filed before the election Commission or Lokayukta.
