The main post office in Sanguem, which caters to the postal services of people from the Sanguem town area and other adjoining areas, is understaffed, leading to deficiency in services for the past over two months.
In the absence regular staff on duty, services like bulk registration are denied and people have to return back for want of staff. Herald inquiries revealed that the services at the Sanguem Post Office are literally hard hit since mid April on account of transfer of regular staff from the Sanguem Post Office.
The Sanguem Post Office, which has a designated staff quota of two clerks and a Post Master, is, at present, managed by a lone clerk. The clerk, employed at the post office in addition to his own duties, has also to double up as Post Master.
Unable to perform the duties of three employees, the clerk is forced to curtail some citizen-related services.
Since mid April, services of bulk registration of letters, notices and documents are denied point blank and the citizens are requested to proceed to the nearest post office in Curchorem. However, even at Curchorem these services are flatly refused, informed an aggrieved citizen.
The banking transactions like depositing and withdrawal of money from the postal accounts is also stopped temporarily and the customers are told that banking functions are being suspended for now because of lack of staff. Customers are hard hit as they are neither permitted to deposit nor withdraw money from their accounts.
It is pertinent to note here that the citizens have to exclusively rely on postal services for getting the services of court and Mamlatdar notices in partition and mutation cases served to the aggrieved parties.
However, with the registration services being temporarily suspended, people are facing great hardships in getting the notices served to the parties as a result of which the partition and mutation cases are delayed inordinately.
An aggrieved citizen from Sanguem, who was told to get the notices posted from Curchorem, informed that the postal authorities at Curchorem also refused point blank the acceptance of bulk registered AD services.
