PORVORIM: Mapusa town and surrounding areas were deprived of power supply for five hours after an electricity feeder burnt at Karaswada-Tivim on Wednesday evening.
According to sources, the electrical feeder at Karaswada-Tivim burnt at about 4 pm and power supply to areas like Karaswada, Cunchelim and Siolim was disrupted.
The electricity department tried to transfer the load to the other feeder, but they could not succeed in the task. As a result power supply was switched off to the remaining areas of Mapusa town at about 6 pm and entire Mapusa town was plunged into darkness.
The people complained that when they tried to contact the electricity department, there was no response from the staff on duty and added that the department’s complaint telephone line was continuously engaged.
The people who visited the electricity department office to enquire about the power failure also could not get satisfactory reply from the staff.
When contacted, the electricity department officials informed that they undertook the work to replace the feeder at Karaswada and the power supply was restored only by about 9 pm.
