MARGAO: All markets, including the fish markets owned by South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA), will remain closed today in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the State.
On the other hand, several shops and gaddas in and around the vicinity of the Kadamba Bus Stand at Margao have already been shut down.

Sources stated that the chicken and fruit and vegetables vendors will also down their shutters for a day.
It is pertinent to note that there are hundreds of small business operators engaged in business activities in and around the KTC bus stand, whose business operations will be badly affected due to Modi’s public meeting scheduled on Tuesday.
President of Retail Fish Vendors Association Felix Gonsalves also informed that they are yet to receive an official notification on the issue, but all have planned to stop selling fish inorder to prevent chaos. “We have not yet received any notice but officials have orally informed us requesting to shut down the business operations for a few hours. And hence, all have unanimously decided to cooperate with the authorities,” Gonsalves said.
Abdul Razak, a chicken vendor at the SGPDA market also said that some vendors may open their shops for a few hours in the morning, however, business operations will be shut down thereafter till the event gets over. “Yes, we will be suffering from some losses due to the closure of the shops, but we have no other choice,” he stated.
