MARGAO: The salary issue of Margao Municipal Council (MMC) staff and other workers is most likely to be settled on October 7, as the civic body has managed to arrange nearly Rs 3 crore on Wednesday.
Once solved, it will provide a huge relief to hundreds of employees, including the daily wage workers.

Speaking to Herald MMC Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes said an arrangement has been made to pay the workers’ salaries, and hoped that on October 7, the amount will be credited in the bank accounts of respective staff and other workers.
He said the civic body is facing a shortage of funds to pay the salaries, and hence MMC has stressed on the recovery of the taxes from defaulters.
Earlier, the Chief Officer had appealed to the taxpayers in the Margao municipality jurisdiction to pay their outstanding dues to the civic body as the council is running short of revenue which has significantly affected the workers’ salary.
