PANJIM: Giving yet another opportunity to the truck owners to register their vehicles with the Directorate of Mines and Geology to avail compensation under government’s proposed financial package, the State government for the fifth time has extended the deadline for registration of trucks till February 28.
Government, which had earlier set November 1 as the deadline, had then extended it till November 10 and then to December 15.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had during the recently concluded Assembly Session announced that the deadline has been extended till January 31. In a fresh direction issued now, the deadline has been further extended.
As per government records around 8000 trucks were registered till December 2012 end.
The government appointed committee headed by Industries Minister Mahadev Naik has already announced that a financial package would be provided to only those truckers who are registered with the department. There were allegations that the failure to register trucks was because many trucks were in the name of politicians, government servants and police.
