CANACONA: The entire Char Rasta in Canacona was plunged into darkness on Saturday, after a vehicle rammed into an electricity pole on Friday night.
According to a Char-Rasta resident, the incident took place at about 10 pm, when an unidentified vehicle rammed into an electricity pole near the speed breaker at Char-Rasta, snapping off power supply to the locality. While the unknown culprit fled with the vehicle from the scene of offence, residents had to bear the brunt of a power outage for the entire night, as electricity department workers began restoration work only on Saturday morning and restored power supply by Saturday evening.
Meanwhile, residents in the locality have criticised the PWD (Highway) authorities for remaining mute spectator to the Wednesday night mishap involving a truck, which severely damaged a concrete roadside gutter. What annoyed residents was the fact that no police complaint had been registered regarding the incident.
“The PWD (Highway) authorities should have taken cognizance especially since public property was destroyed in the mishap. They should have registered a complaint,” said Sameer Naik, a local resident.
