The arrest followed a complaint lodged by the deceased’s wife Lalita Devi, aged 33, prompting Maina-Curtorim police to register an offence under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.

According to the police, on the fateful Sunday, after indulging in drinks at Nessai, an argument ensued between the two friends. In a fit of rage, Shyam Naik attacked Rajiv Mahto with sharp-edged broken glass pieces, causing serious injuries to his face and neck, resulting in profuse bleeding. Rajiv was rushed to the South Goa District Hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries later.
