Ponda: A team led by Assistant Conservator of Forest Paresh Parab, Mollem RFO Siddesh Naik and forest guards on Thursday arrested a person and seized teakwood worth nearly Rs 4 lakh in two separate raids in the Mollem forest and at Mollem Wildlife Sanctuary.
Parab said, “The team kept a vigil in forest area after they learnt that teak trees have been cut and stacked at a place in the forest. Before transportation of the wood, the raid was conducted. More persons are likely to be arrested in this connection.”
He said, “The forest officials are conducting further inquiry. The officials had also seized teak wood on December 20 last year.”
