One person has been detained by Old Goa Police for alleged kidnapping and threats to Merces activist Michael Dias. Dias has been involved in protecting khazans and paddy fields in Merces. Khazan society of Goa appealed to the government to protect the khazan paddy fields, salt pans, rivulets (poim) and the rich heritage of Tiswadi. A Khazan society representative said Michael followed on the way to his home after Christmas midnight mass & when he reached home Michael was taken away by the accused on his own two-wheeler and detained for 4 hours and threatened.
The accused was detained after people from Merces under the banner of Khazan society of Goa protested outside the Old Goa police station on the 26th December morning.
