Tension prevailed at the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) conference hall on Wednesday after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa president Valmiki Naik was taken out by police when residents refused to vacate the premises following the non-conduct of a scheduled meeting on casinos operating in the Mandovi River.
Large numbers of concerned citizens had gathered at the CCP hall to oppose the continuation of casino operations and to seek clarity from the Mayor on the corporation’s official stand on the issue. However, when the anticipated meeting failed to take place, protesters decided to remain inside the hall as a mark of protest.

The situation escalated, prompting police intervention. During the process of restoring order, Valmiki Naik was escorted out of the conference hall by police personnel.
Protesters reiterated their demand for the CCP to clearly articulate its position on casinos and to pass a resolution opposing any expansion or continuation of casino activities in Panaji.
Police maintained that the intervention was necessary to prevent further escalation and to ensure law and order.
