Besides having their illustrious son of the soil, Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao, as head of the archdiocese and one of the principal celebrants at the feast Mass, the Aldonkars were pleased as two of their former assistant parish priests played a key role in the feast Mass.
While Exposition Committee Convenor Fr Alfred Vaz read the gospel, St Bartholomew (Chorao) Parish Priest Fr Minguel Pereira delivered the commentary at the feast Mass.
Parishioners of Aldona recalled fond memories of Fr Pereira and Fr Vaz as young clergymen, when they served as assistant parish priests at the St Thomas Church, Aldona, during the mid-1990s. Fr Pereira had served at the St Thomas Church in 1995 and he was succeeded by Fr Vaz.
“We are always elated to see in prominence any of our villagers or one who is or was connected in some way to our village. Many Aldoncars at the Feast Mass were pleased to see our Archbishop Ferrao, Fr Pereira and Fr Vaz actively associated in the liturgical celebration,” remarked Konkani writer Felix P da Cruz.
“We remember that besides their various pastoral activities, they excelled in music and showed their calibre in organizing parish events, thereby
increasing the grandeur of our religious celebrations,”
he added.
